Railway Carriage Monitoring
Enhanced Remote Monitoring of Large-Scale Networks
The JetBox 9563G series gigabit booster PoE computers were recently integrated in a Railway monitoring and control project to ensure passengers’ safety inside carriages in a real-time and cost-effective manner. The patented built-in 12~24V booster technology enabled the embedded computers to easily power up standard PoE IP cameras inside the railcars without using additional power converters. Using the dual gigabit ports, the JetBox 9563G computers uplinked the high-speed megapixel video images to the control room while allowing administrators to control the networks through the Linux capability. With their rugged vibration and shock resistant design, the JetBox series computers became the perfect solutions to ensure real-time surveillance and remote control of the railway carriages.

Carriage monitoring systems have been developing ever since the widespread implementation of latest innovative technologies. Railway companies need to foster effective cooperation in the area of a broader and faster exchange of data, which puts fundamental prerequisites for monitoring a carriage from a single location. However, to ensure the data collection, verification, device remote communication as well as live megapixel video data transfer and IP camera feeding, multiple devices should be used. Besides, to convert power for delivering standard 48V PoE in railways, is also troublesome and requires additional devices. This requests enormous human and financial investments.
Korenix JetBox 9563G series gigabit booster PoE VPN router computers have been chosen by a system integrating company for their all-in-one capabilities to extend the networks and provide high-performance data transmission with a minimum budget. To enable the IP cameras inside the carriages, where the standard 48V power input is not usually available, the JetBox uses its PoE booster technology, which allows converting the 12~24V power input to 48V to power IP cameras. Through the 4 PoE ports the networking computers can deliver up to 15.4W per port and simultaneously collect the video streams from cameras, and using the gigabit ports, uplink the data from each carriage to the control room for recording and monitoring. With its rich interface, the programmable computer substitutes a number of single-function devices in a front-end control box, as a result simplifying system architecture and reducing the installation / maintenance costs.
System integrators can benefit from the Linux programming function of the computers to easily maintain the network system and have fast remote access. In addition, Linux SDK can be used to develop programmable customized applications. Furthermore, the JetBox 9563G is equipped with complete Layer3 routing capabilities for efficiently managing extended network groups. Moreover, administrators can benefit from the VPN functionality of the system to establish long-distance and secured network connection over WAN.
In the control room, one of the computers can use USB GPRS dongle to communicate with center for emergency as well as use GPS for location service.

Combined with IP31 rugged fan-less design, including vibration/shock resistance and -25~70°C operating temperature, JetBox 9563G ensures the reliability and high performance of large network infrastructures in severe environments allowing administrators at the command center to view live video through any of the security cameras installed in vehicles and ensure reliable carriage remote monitoring and surveillance.
